A young couple wanted the storage space of their involve a house in Oss in the kitchen and turn it into a dining area.
Because the existing roof (a combination of flat roof and saddle roof) had an oppressive effect on the interior, it had to be replaced. Two flat roofs were chosen: a low one on the street facade, so that it does not protrude above the gutter of the garage. And a higher one, with which the ceiling in the kitchen was extended.
The different ceiling heights created two 'zones': a high one, in which the kitchen and 'traffic space' are included. Under the low ceiling is now the intimate dining area.
Between the two roof planes on the west side a skylight installed; as a result, the kitchen fills with daylight in the afternoon. The windows of the dining area have been made storey-high and now contrast with the small windows in the traditional (brick) facade.
