TRANSFORMATION 1980S HOME

Security and unobstructed view in a large space

TRANSFORMATION 1980S HOME

The residents of a house on the Franciscanenborch in Rosmalen had to contend with a tapering dining room, which meant that the last chair at the table could hardly be pushed back – they therefore wanted a larger dining room. They would also like to include the kitchen in the house.

The kitchen became part of the whole because we removed the kitchen walls and placed a cooking island. From the kitchen you now have a view of the living room and dining room; the residents can watch their children play while cooking.

We created space by placing the rear wall of the dining room (part of the side wall) on the plot boundary. We placed a fixed bench in the niche that was created, so that it no longer needed to be moved.

On the couch you now experience security and enclosure while you still stay in the large space. The side walls and the roof are made of glass, creating sightlines that are not present in other places in the house.
