KITCHEN IN CONSERVATORY

Warm and industrial in the conservatory

KITCHEN IN CONSERVATORY

The resident of a ground floor apartment on Balistraat in East Amsterdam wanted an extension containing the kitchen. Together with Marc Koehler Architects I came up with a conservatory that connects directly to the balcony of the upstairs neighbors. The richly overgrown city garden now comes in, as it were, through the folding glass wall.

In the modest conservatory I opted for a narrow kitchen island, so that there was room for a sitting area. The column cabinet (in which the central heating boiler is placed) forms an L-shaped element with the kitchen cabinets above the sink. The whole is finished in high-gloss black, so that the color matches the conservatory construction well.

The worktop and island are made of cherry veneer, which creates a warm appearance in contrast to the industrial cast floor.
