Near the old town centre of Delft, a combined day care and after school care centre was needed. The building’s concept is the spiral, symbolizing the growth of a child, who walks or crawls through the building discovering new things as he or she grows older.
The route architectural of the spiral is a succession of play areas and activity spaces, only to be obstructed by the closed entities of the group rooms and necessary spaces. Changing vistas and voids contribute to the elements of surprise. The spiral culminates in the rooftop playground, where either a “secret” staircase or a slide takes you down to the partially covered playground on street level.
