RENOVATION THIRTIES HOUSE

Brick floor connects interior and exterior

RENOVATION THIRTIES HOUSE

The occupants of a typical thirties house in Utrecht wanted to build an extension to their house to create more space on ground level.

We chose to construct the extension as a green house in order to admit more daylight in the central located spaces. By extending the brick floor into the outside terrace, the extension feels more spacious. This brick floor relates to the existing entrance of the house, with a brick ceiling.

In the former kitchen a small and cosy lounge room is realized, which in terms of ambience and use of colour contrasts with the open and bright set-up of the house. The hearth of the lounge room gives a view to the kitchen. The hearth is also the central element of the house, it can be seen from all living spaces on the ground floor.
